FREE THINGS TO DO IN DANE COUNTY Indoors: Kids in the Rotunda Saturday performances Fall through Spring on the Rotunda Stage at the Overture Center. Kid-friendly, stroller-friendly atmosphere with a fun line-up of musicians, theatrical companies, and other entertainers perform 9:30, 11am & 1pm each Saturday. Play Area West Towne Mall Located in front of JcPenney & lined with booths for parent/guardian to observe children; the play area provides soft, padded structures to crawl & climb on. Play Area East Towne Mall This toddler-friendly play area is located nearest JcPenney, by The Children's Place, and also offers a free, facilitated play & learn group the 1st Friday every month for children ages 0 - 5. The purpose of the P&L group is to learn math & literacy skills while playing! McDonald's Play Land Click here to find locations with play lands *Socks are required, or available for purchase. Visit the State Capitol The Capitol is open daily for free tours, or just for new scenery or restroom use if you happen to be downtown. See the amazing view of Madison from the Observation Deck, open during the summer months. Indoor Farmer's Market The Dane County Farmer's Market operates year-round: After the last outdoor market around the Capitol Square, DCFM moves inside: Every Saturday November 12 thru December 7 at Monona Terrace 7:30am- Noon; then moves to Madison Senior Center Jan 7 thru April 14 from 8am-Noon, also offering a full breakfast available for purchase for $8 from 8:30 to approx 11am. Olbrich Botanical Gardens Free admission for to the Bolz Conservancy only offered to members, and also to the public every Wednesday & Saturday from 10am-Noon. Physics Museum The L.R. Ingersoll Museum is a free, public, hands-on physics museum on the UW Campus at Chamberlin Hall, Room 2130 with curious interactive exhibits to inspire future inventors! Recommended for ages 5 & up, but all are welcome and it's stroller- friendly.
